Consumer Protection Under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, Consumer Courts have been set up in Meghalaya, which are known as State Commission at the State Level and District Forum at the District Level. The District Forum deals with Consumer disputes the value of which ranges from Rs. 0 - Rs. 20 lakhs while State Commission deals with Cases, value which range from Rs. 20 lakhs to Rs. 1 crore. Upto September, 2008, the number of Cases registered are as follows: -

Integrated Project on Consumer Protection In 2006-07, an amount of Rs.105.46 lakhs has again been sanctioned by Government of India for strengthening the infrastructures and extension of the buildings of the State Commission and District Fora under the Integrated Project on Consumer Protection, out of which the 1st installment amounting to Rs. 75.86 lakhs has been released and drawn by the Directorate of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Shillong lately during this current financial year 2007-08 and the same is being released to all the Consumer Courts as under:-
